The capture shortcut

The capture shortcut is the fastest lane into Placeful: press the Action Button, photograph a thing, and it lands on your shelves with a cutout, without the app ever opening.

Setting it up

Open Placeful on your phone and go to Settings, then Capture shortcut. The walkthrough takes three taps:

1. Add the shortcut installs it into the iOS Shortcuts app.
2. Pair runs it once with your account key. Nothing to copy or type; the pairing link hands the key over.
3. Assign it to the Action Button in iOS Settings, under Action Button.

The first run, Shortcuts asks permission twice (to save a file and to talk to the server). Choose Always Allow both times, or every capture will pause to ask.

If the camera opens without pairing

An older copy of the shortcut with the same name answered the pairing call. Delete the old one in the Shortcuts app and tap Pair again.

The shortcut is separate from the app itself, so it works even when the app is closed. It is also entirely optional; the + button inside Placeful does everything the shortcut does.
